Due to the economic downturn induced by the coronavirus pandemic, as many as 12,000 major chain stores could close by the end of the year (2020). Among the casualties are Hallmark, GNC, Walgreens, and Gamestop. Brooks Brothers filed for bankruptcy in July. Some stores were struggling even before the global pandemic hit–as with Forever 21, Chicos, and Pier 1 Imports. Now they are all filing for chapter 11. Others, like Modell’s Sports, will cease to exist. Meanwhile, JackRabbit bought out Olympia Sports. Other businesses continue to seek capital infusion to stay afloat. It is more vital than ever that enterprises find ways to connect themselves with investment.
